Bibliophile

"When life is tumbling out of control, I go to my happy place, where I can dream, remember and find order in chaos: I gaze upon my bookshelves," says Patrick Barkham and so do I. And when not at home to view my bookshelves I look at these...Cause 'Reading is a conversation.  All books talk, But a good book listen as well' - Mark Haddon

As breathing in and out cannot be in isolation so is reading and writing (to me). Wish I was blessed with the natural flair and flow of words as some are, or had the memory to remember all that I read, which is needed. A bibliophile loves the book, the smell and the aesthetic of books, and may have hundreds of them displayed proudly at home - including several first editions - and may even boast excitedly about loving books. The bibliophagist is the real deal because he or she is simply a voracious reader. I am somewhere in between. I do not own many books, but do buy the ones I want to read; and I do know some who read 365 books in a year, I am not even half way there. Plagiarism is considered academic dishonesty and a breach of journalistic ethics, I know, and therefore I would not want writings on any of the below to be a representation of my own original work. Most of them are Synopsis and in writers own words. Therefore I don't call them Book Review.

These are labelled as 'Reads - Fiction' and 'Reads - Non Fiction'.

"We all have a lot more to read than we can read and a lot more to do than we can do. Reading isn't the opposite of doing, it's the opposite of dying. People we love stay with us even after they are gone, as our favorite books, stay with us, for our entire life. Reverence for books is what we all have in common - Every religion. From the Uncommon Reader by Alan Bennett "Reading is untidy, discursive and perpetually inviting; Books are not about passing the time. They're about other lives. Other worlds. The appeal of reading lay in its indifference. There was something undeferring about literature. Books did not care who was reading them or whether one read them or not. All readers were equal." Reading helps to recognize cruelty, death, pain. So read.

"If you fall in love with books it means you’re chronically addicted to heartbreak. That we can pour ourselves so fully into something that makes us feel everything and which ends with a final page. The imagination unbound but physically cut off with the inevitability of The End." So says my biblotherapist The lonesome reader.

“it’s the sheer relief from the chaos in the head that reading delivers. Sometimes I think it alone provides me with courage for life, and has from earliest childhood.”

~ Vivian Gornick, ‘Unfinished Business’

Yes, still remember crying for books to read when in 4th standard,  when father had gone to work, mother was worried and unaware what to do as I had created such a scene that neighbors had gathered around wondering what happened. Now there is so much to read - with ebooks, library, and owned books, but time is a constraint, and slowly eyes too. Pray that I always be surrounded by good books and people. Amen. Bonus would be a serene location amidst hills and streams. Desires unlimited of a human mind.

This is where it all began from, and in the words of the owner Raghavan Chittappan:

"Kalangale thirinjunokkanulla oru sramam,  innalekalilude oruyathra naaleyilekku, samayam nilkalillatha vazhikalilude."
