Chhapaak - Meghana Gulzar

Meghana Gulzar's Talvar was insightful, and could not resist watching Chappak. Given all the hue and cry asking it to be boycotted - don't know if it was a publicity stunt or the revolt by opposition for whatever reasons best known including the continuous drama by the Balaji Telefilms actress, am sure, it has given the movie more viewers...

Do not want to reveal the story and spoil the curiosity of watching but would like to clarify like how the call and reason for boycott go, they have not changed the basics of the culprit, and as claimed they could not have changed everything again after all the criticism, just perfectly for the time of release in a short time. All said and done, there is a social message, sale of acids has to be regulated. Heart goes out to acid victims, and good to know there are kinder souls around. If not for being partly biographic to a real victim Lakshmi though characters name has been changed in the movie; Chhapaak narrates the story of 19-year-old Malti (Padukone) who, as a happy teenager, aspired to be a singer, but ‘chhapaak’ of acid changes the course of her life. Her life, now, revolves around working for an NGO for acid attack victims, battling her court case and getting corrective surgeries at the hospital. An emotionally engaging film, the films make you think at so many levels - Society attacks people always, while the culprit attacks only once.Coincidentally it was a lunar eclipse night as well, like the song...Nok Jok and Chapak; two simple and touching ones.
