Losing a loved one is one of life's most difficult and devastating transitions - it could be death or separation. It is never easy to say goodbye. Death, or any kind of separation from someone (or something) we love, is an experience that can rattle us to our very core and uproot us from the life we know. The pain of loss is often too unbearable for words; it leaves us dazed, dumbfounded and shocked. Then suddenly, there comes a day when we wake up, but it takes time.
Loss is a part of life we all must face during our time on earth. We will lose people we love and adore, people we feel close to in certain ways, people we have come to know in the public eye. We will lose people we didn't even think we cared for anymore, and we will be shocked at the impact of that loss on our lives. We will grieve with our nation and the world for the tragedies and losses that reach universal proportions and affect all people. We will mourn the ended relationships and significant personal losses that herald the end of an era.
Each will face mourning and grief in our own personal way, in our own time, universal principal is 'There is no way over grief, only through it'. We must cry, feel the pain, get to the end, surrender and let go. It is a complex process, a healing journey.
Death and loss place us in one of life's most profound and challenging 'classrooms'. When someone or something significant dies, a part of us does as well. This ending births a new beginning.
Mary Magdalene, shows us the power of a woman's love, the challenge of the healing heart and the willingness to go on in the face of deep mourning. She represents the right to grieve and the ability to survive and grow beyond any loss.
Embrace your pain, stay present, honor your feelings, Carry on, Build an altar, honor the gifts, take over the mantle, Move on.
