Adi Shankaracharya - Kalady

Adi Shankaracharya was instrumental in reconciling various sects in the bygone days. He travelled all over India to help restore the study of the Vedas. He established/popularised  the Advaita Vedanta school of thought.

For Shankaracharya, Jnana Yoga—the pursuit of knowledge—was the key to liberation. He emphasized self-inquiry and contemplation as tools to remove ignorance (Avidya).

The word Shankaracharya is composed of two parts, Shankara and Acharya. Acharya is a Sanskrit word meaning "teacher", so Shankaracharya means "teacher of the way of Shankara
