Into a new job?
The first 6 months in a new job are like stepping into a moving train π
You’re expected to find your seat… while it’s already in motion.
I’ll be honest.
In the first 6 months of almost every new job… I felt like quitting.
Almost every time.
Nothing was fundamentally wrong.
But something didn’t feel right.
And that feeling quietly says:
π “Maybe this isn’t for you.”
Over time, I realised:
π It wasn’t the job
π It was the transition phase
Every new job disrupts you in three ways:
πΉ → Confidence drops
πΉ → Control reduces
πΉ → Comparison begins
And your mind plays a trick…
It edits your past and compares it with your present.
So I made one rule:
“For the first 6 months… no decisions.”
π Just understand, don’t evaluate.
Here’s what I started doing:
πΉ Month 1–2: Observe, don’t prove
→ Who influences decisions?
→ What really matters?
→ How does work actually move?
πΉ Month 3–4: Create small wins
→ Don’t try to change everything
→ Just build visible contributions
πΉ Month 5–6: Decide with clarity
→ Now you have context
→ Now you have perspective
Somewhere in between, I stopped waiting for clarity… and created it.
πΉ → Defined my role for myself
πΉ → Focused on outcomes, not activities
πΉ → Aligned it with my manager
And instead of judging my boss… I decoded:
πΉ → Speed or perfection?
πΉ → Updates or independence?
πΉ → Data or relationships?
That reduced most of the friction.
Because here’s what I’ve learnt:
πΉ → People don’t leave wrong jobs
πΉ → They leave too early
πΉ → They mistake discomfort for misfit
πΉ → And impatience for intuition
If you’re in that phase right now…
Pause.
π You’re not stuck
π You’re just early in the story
Stay a little longer.
Understand a little deeper.
Then decide with clarity.
