Dear Girls,

I knew a girl once. She was smart, bright and joyful. With her own special strengths and her own unique weaknesses, as all of us have.

Her background had been straitened, but her family, especially her mother, made sure that she built in her daughter a spine that was straight and strong to take on the universe on her own terms. She has worked hard, dealt with a world that is sometimes kind, often cruel and many times condescending, mean and tyrannical. But she has reached a summit which many people, who come with an assortment of entitlements supporting them, have not. She continues to battle daily, she continues to conquer her demons, internal and external, and she keeps her personal insignia flying high amidst storms and fair weather.

This is the story of one of you. This is the story of many of you. This is the story of all women who want to live life on their own terms.

I cheer you and remind you that you are not alone. You have so many people, looking at you with awe and wonder.
