Wonders of Sikkim : 6 Day Exploration ~ Usha Hariprasad (20 of 24)

This book covers the myths about Sikkim, FAQ's, Overview, Sikkim Ladscape, History, Itinerary, Journey, Sightseeing - Gangtok, Namchi, North Sikkim, Lanchen, Getting a Permit, Things to Note and a Bonus chapter on Darjeeling. It was like relearning how to live.  Sikkim has a bit of everything from beautiful flower valleys to snow, glacier lakes.

Offseason rates would be lesser, ask hotel if they can help with driver. Shared cabs are available too.

There are many firsts one encounter....

The blooming Rhododendrons in May, hot springs, snow at zero point, high altitude sickness, magic of prayer wheels, the warmth of Angeethi - the traditional brazier.

Book - Bare glimpse of this land of peace. Hope you like it as much as me.

Not all places are high altitude and you need not fear AMS (Altitude Motion Sickness) every where . Good to carry medicine for motion sickness, and regular medicines.

You can book a vehicle and go on your own. No need of travel agent. But for restricted and protected places best to book a travel agent as it will need permit.

There is someone following you through out the journey. i.e. the river Teesta.

She is your constant companion as you traverse Sikkim. Sometimes silent, sometimes gurgling, most often gushing, Teesta is always there with you.

There is huge diversity of people, who have migrated from various places.  Prayer flags will be seen around and so also the prayer wheels.

Sikkim is divided into four districts. - East, North , South West - ENSW - 1,2,3,4 - best to follow.

The chardam in Namchi has the giant statue of Shiva - 87m and houses 4 Dams - Ram, Badri, Jaganath and Dwarka along with it there are 12 Jyothirlingas and statue of Lord Kirteshwara.

Gangtok in East is the ideal place to start the trip.
