Longest English Words

Don’t expect to find the absolute longest one here. That word would take up about fifty-seven pages, and it’s the name of a protein called titin found in humans. The full name has a whopping 189,819 letters! Most dictionaries don’t include this word and many other super long ones. It’s because dictionaries have limited space, and most people don’t need to know these super technical words. Some used are:

1. Pneumonoultramicroscopicsilicovolcanoconiosis (forty-five letters) - A lung disease caused by the inhalation of silica or quartz dust.

Pneumono - ultra - microscopic -silico - volcano - conio - sis

2. Pseudopseudohypoparathyroidism (thirty letters) - A mild form of inherited Pseudopseudohypoparathyroidism that simulates the symptoms of the disorder but isn't associated with abnormal levels of calcium and phosphorous in the blood.

3. Floccinaucinihilipilification (twenty-nine letters) - The estimation of something as valuless. Ironically, Floccinaucinihilipilification is a pretty valuless word by itself. It's almost never used except as an example of long word.

4. Antidisestablishmentarianism (twenty-eight letters) - Orginally described opposition to the disestablishment of the church of England, but now it may refer to any opposition to withdrawing government support of a particular church or religion.

5. Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious (thirty-four letters) - Word to use "When you have nothing to say". It appears in some but not all dictionary. - You can also use it to say Very good or wonderful. It was used in the Mary Poppins film. (Super / Cali / Fragilistic / Expiali /docious
