The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas - John Boyne

The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas by John Boyne was my 9th of 2021.

'Somethings are just sitting there, waiting to be discovered. Other things are probably better off left alone'

Nine year old Bruno has a lot of things on his mind. Who is the Fury? Why did he make them leave their nice home in Berlin to go to 'Out-Wit'? And who are all the sad people in striped pyjamas on the other side of the fence? The grown-ups won't explain so Bruno decided there is only one thing for it - he will have to explore this place alone. What he discovers is a new friend. A boy with the same birthday. A boy wearing striped pyjamas. But why can't they ever play together?

Bruno is from Berlin and want to be an explorer when he is grown up and Shmuel is from Poland and he wants to work in Zoo.  Bruno has a sister, who he things is a hopeless case, who love dolls. The grown ups are busy correcting history.  Karl, Daniel & Martin where Bruno's best friends when he left Berlin, but soon he forgot them, and it was Shmuel. As they moved he missed his home, grandparents and everything old, and did not like anything new. As Samuel narrated his story and the plight, he could compare it only to the extend he suffered, and not beyond. They meet daily, until Bruno's parent feel it would not be safe for children to stay there. But then will Bruno return to Berlin?

Hope nothing like that would happen ever again, Not in this day and age.
