These questions lead to overthinking, negative thinking, not knowing how; and regret with not making decisions or make wrong decisions. Overwhelming thoughts do not allow you to take action. Kill the voice when small and practice it.

Self doubt, fear come from right side of the brain. Pull any negative thought out, put it on your hand, squash it and throw it out of the window. - Keep doing this every time you get negative thought, when you become impatient. Your energy level will go up.

5th June 2022 - change your life; make this the best year of your life. Even though you are not able to see it. Every crisis has greater opportunity, not coming to you.

You don't see opportunities with eyes but with brain.

You can live a "&" life and need not live an 'or' life. You don't need to sacrifice one thing for the other, but will have to find a balance.

When you are younger your are born with body and brain. For the first 7 years - you have hardware -

What you see, hear, smell, taste, feel - is going into your brain. You are absorbing everything like a sponch. This creates 95% of software in your brain. Message that go into the brain, creates positive or negative impacts and create our software. The software is the unconscious expectation.

What stops us from getting there, when we can see that other are doing it?

How much you try to have everything in life you don't get it, because it's not in your software.

Can you run the latest software of iphone, in the first version. Same with windows or android.

Your life is like a wheel, and there are 8 aspects of your life.

Rate self in every area of life from 1-10, put a circle, and mark:
  • Health
  • Happiness
  • Relationship
  • Time
  • Personal growth
  • Career
  • Finances
  • Contribution
some are high on finances, but low in relationship.

Every person lives two lives, one where you are living right now, and one your dream life. The life you are living and life you want to live, is just once decision away.

Obsessive, compulsive action - after taking the right decision.

Don't give any excuses, make it happen for you.

I am making a decision. I am changing my life.

Change must being with you. With action.

Frrari - on the best roads in the world - what stops it from going at full speed?

  • Not knowing the direction
  • Not having the required skill
  • Driving in slow lane, because there is a speed limit set.
  • Like snake and ladder , you are almost about to reach your destination, and a snake brings you down - you keep telling yourself, you are not lucky - But it's not your luck, but your unconscious expectation set points.
Success depends on:
  1. Your technical skills - 20%
  2. Personality - 80% - Made up of your
    1. thoughts,
    2. emotions and
    3. behaviours.
If you have a struggle mindset, you will keep struggling.

No matter how hard you work, or how much effort you make, it will come back to where you were at 7 years old.

Is your life a reflection or improvement from that of your parents or is it the same? - You are living the same life as your person.

If it has become worse - because you do not focus on your personality, when the world is moving to different direction.

If the world is rapidly changing, but you are operating on the old soft ware - it will crash and struggle.

Commit - Focus on Personality. Be the gate keeper of your mind. It's an every day class.

Science of struggle and success:

When human started truanting on the planet in small numbers, nature was trying to protect us, and keep up with the first layer of brain - reptilian brain. - Primary action of it is keep you safe and comfortable. Action was to fight with weaker opponent or run away to stronger opponent. It also came up with significant task - To keep focus on the environment around you.  It keeps focusing on danger or threat. It is working in us constantly, and control 95% of our life, that works on automation. This is the brain that controls your behaviour and habits. Brain not only focus on physical danger/trauma or stress, but also the emotional/mental stress or trauma.

Something's have happened in the past, but is still triggering in your brain. Morning no thoughts - and couple of seconds, it start coming.

Reptilian brain focus on emotional trauma and put you back in the zone of safety/comfort and survival. It's job is to keep you safe and comfortable. So it is said, come out of your comfort zone.

There is another layer of brain called mammalian brain. They stay together, one guarding when other is asleep. This is emotional brain that produces hormones. Gives fuel,  either procrastinates or is proactive. Responsible for action. Releases about 80 different chemicals in our body - life fuels in the car. If you put sub standard fuel in Ferrari what will happen? Some chemicals are:
Stress hormones - Adrenaline and cortisone. If it is too much in the body -  it goes down, everytime a problem is solved.  If feel you are causing problem when your self esteem and self worth is low. How many of you are on your own, keep thinking of an event from your past? Because that memory is somewhere deep down in your reptilian brain, thinking of that danger. Like a smoker who wants another cigarette after nicotine level goes down every time. A problem arise, you solve, hormones go down, and start feeling low - so start showing the worst case scenario before you.

Problems take you to survival mode, and you struggle. We are addicted to this cycle, so we are unable to change our old habits.

DOSE is the substandard fuel in the Ferrari. Everytime these 4 hormones (DOSE) are less in the body - you fall sick. You need to turn it into auto pilot mode for success. DOSE stands for Dopamine, Oxytocin, Seretonin, Endorphins. Successful people are those who are able to sove the problems. Bigger problem you solve, better the success. Your life will not be problem free untill you are in the cemetery. You can overcome problem, if you have right kind of DOSE in the body, and once one is solved, there is another that would come up.

Another layer of brain - new and young is neocortex. Responsible to have goals in life. It has desires - called CEO of the brain, decision making, creative. It comes us with solutions , can think differently, and is superior.

If CEO sets the goal, and team decides not to cooperate, company will not be able to achieve the result, if there is a discord.

Very Important - Example - We set goals, during the first week of January. Think: Reptilian brain - Father, Mammalian brain - Mother, and Neocortex brain is - Child. Child will  ask, are you okay to help me to mother? Mother say okay tell us what you want? Child say - Energy. Father is watching mother and child. He asks mother what is happening? Mother tells him child's pan. Father says okay - but seems reluctant. Two weeks strong. Father is seeing the struggle, he says how initial excitement is and wants to put back in safety mode. Mother is pulled between Father and son, with instances from past being repeated, and the question mark in brain put by father, start getting paranoid and start releasing stress hormones. Son start waking up with drag, think of drooping out from goal in the third week of jan. Father again goes to the mother asking I don't understand why it is needed, says this is not the focus, if you want carry on, I am not with you. Mather is fully into paranoid. A&C released. Mother takes back struggle and survival.

Which week do you drop your goals.

Only way to get this in order is working on Reptilian brain, release past stored, and allowing it to connect with the neocortex. Bridge is connected.

I/10th of Iceberg is above the surface and 9/10th is below the surface. What we see in front of you is what is above the iceberg.

Below the iceberg -
  1. the root - Upto 7 years - experiences - Reptilian brain is developed.
  2. Stems - mammalian brain - emotional brain
  3. RAS - Reticular Activation System - Bundle of nerves sitting between reptilian brain and Mammalian brain - Inner composs. - It works as a magnet to attract opportunities to make more money and have a better life.  - Don't understand the difference though between positive and negative.
  4. When we spend time, money or energy on something, your attention goes there more. When you get something for free, we do not cherish it.
  5. RAS is the gatekeeper in the brain. It stops the strangers. - Our Goals are strangers, with it there is a potential threat. There is a good news and bad news. bad news is this is designed when you were 7 years old, we are in a loop of creating same experiences. Good news is  neuro plastic. i.e. it has ability to constantly change. It will go through the same cycle, unless you break the loop, and it can be broken by being a Life long Learner.
How do you know brain is changing for good?
Life
Long
Learner

You feel more:
  • Energy
  • Focus
  • Inspired
  • Productive
You feel worthy, you break the loop and your focus is on solution. It is now moved from Survival,

How you create habit and how it is broken

Put together your hands, folded, which thumb is up - right or left? try again, its same. Intentionally put the other. Are you feeling comfortable? No. Why? Because - as child you are used to - Your Reticular Activation System is used to it.

You might have constant intention to change your habits. Trillions of cells are more powerful than habits, that is connected to the personality. Same personality cannot create changed results. How many thoughts do you remember that we had yesterday? If your thoughts create your reality and you do not remember them , how are we going to change it?

Transformation is not easy. Only person who like change is the baby in the wet diaper. Everytime you fight you are releasing your A&C. Based on habits, you miss your opportunities.

We pass out from same place, but get different results. High mark people may not be successful. Why?

Same opportunity, different results?

Answer is who you are is important, rather than what you are.

1930, first experiment done on Luck.  100 people - 50 successful, and 50 unsuccessful told to find word lucky in a paper. 50 people found.  You see only what you want to see. If your focus is on problem you only see that.  FB set of word, write three words you find - It's the exercise of what's in your brain.

Opportunities we do not see with eyes, but with RAS - like how we do not see things right in front of us. Based on opportunity you see, you make your decision.

Decision - Action - Result

Let's take one are : Money. Write how it is
  • Current
  • Savings
  • Loans
How do you feel about it? Think about it, the emotions that come when you think of it.

When it is said, don't focus on your pink elephant, we keep thinking of the pink elephant. Money is a magnifier.

The blocks can be the same for Relationship, health, or any other area - they are like weeds in the garden, that spoil entire garden

No.     Block                                                        Action

1.      Not so Important                         Mismanagement, avoid looking at financial details
2.     Never have any extra money        Never able to do anything more than you do to earn more money
3.     Investments are complicated        You will never take efforts to invest money
4.     Sales and marketing is cheap        Hesitate to sell your product and services

You are the product in the market - you are selling yourself. If you are not able to market for what you do, you will not get the right salary.  If you are parent and have this block. Politicians win election because they are able to sell. Parent are able to influence children because they are able to sell ideas.

All the products and services we use, are sold by someone.

Selling is serving. If you don't do it, someone else will do it. May be their intention is not right.

If you are a good person and have good intention, make sure you are selling your product and ideas.

Biggest resistance come in your life from your own family members, because you are not able to sell and market them.

These blocks are like monkey traps. Don't be stuck in your life holding on to peanuts.

People don't earn what they are capable of earning, they earn what they are conditioned to learn.

We do not learn from past experiences, mistakes and failures.  Our brain don't let us take the risk. It says, milk is hot, butter milk is also hot.

Scientist created four blocs, electrified one block and asked a dog to go to each of the four block starting from A, they electrified A - dogs rushed to B, and went to other three. Next time they electrified B , dogs did not go to A; because B was electrified, dogs came out, next time did not go to A or B. This happened. Last time they electrified only D. Dogs went to D block only, did not dare to come out, stayed there and died.

Emotional trauma, blow, depression, strike in which will start killing you.

Mindset that created the problems cannot create the solutions.

Anything that is shared is not to impress, but to be impressed.

Ultimate Success Champion. - 3 day live workshop.

Revive RAS, Release DOSE, have balanced life.

If you are forgetting things, it's not a problem - because as a child nobody was paying attention to him. Started feeling neglected. Started hiding things. Released past triggers.

Team Building

Team Building is building the right culture - of result and relationship. This is best to come from the team. Steps to be followed are:

  1. Educate - Talk to the team.
  2. Ask team to list situations where results/relationships are compromised. Example where result is compromised is for personal reasons official job cannot be done, and example of relationship being compromised is where there is conflict between department heads
  3. Put team members in groups - to handle situation. Brain storm and come up with culture. Let it be solutions focused and not blamed focused.

  1. Create awareness - design our way/not our way posters in office
  2. Review, Reaffirm, Realign, and Rolemodel - Reward, Recognise. - Only this is ongoing task , all the rest are one time activity.

Gratitude and Thanks Giving @ Onondaga Nation School.

In ‘Braiding Sweetgrass,’ Robin Wall Kimmerer writes about a ritual at Onondaga Nation School. There is no ‘Pledge of Allegiance,’ instead they have a ‘Thanksgiving Address,’ at the beginning and end of each week. Each grade take turns at this. Here are some excerpts from a third graders’ week.'

In this ritual, their teachers remind them that every day, “beginning with where our feet first touch the earth, we send greetings and thanks to all members of the natural world”

“Today we have gathered and when we look upon the faces around us we see that the cycles of life continue. We have been given the duty to live in balance and harmony with each other and all living things. So now let us bring our minds together as one as we give greetings and thanks to each other as People. Now our minds are one.”

“We are thankful to our Mother the Earth, for she gives us everything that we need for life. She supports our feet as we walk about upon her. It gives us joy that she still continues to care for us, just as she has from the beginning of time. To our Mother, we send thanksgiving, love, and respect. Now our minds are one.”

“We give thanks to all of the waters of the world for quenching our thirst, for providing strength and nurturing life for all beings. We know its power in many forms—waterfalls and rain, mists and streams, rivers and oceans, snow and ice. We are grateful that the waters are still here and meeting their responsibility to the rest of Creation. Can we agree that water is important to our lives and bring our minds together as one to send greetings and thanks to the Water? Now our minds are one.”

“We turn our thoughts to all of the Fish life in the water. They were instructed to cleanse and purify the water. They also give themselves to us as food. We are grateful that they continue to do their duties and we send to the Fish our greetings and our thanks. Now our minds are one.

"Now we turn toward the vast fields of Plant life. As far as the eye can see, the Plants grow, working many wonders. They sustain many life forms. With our minds gathered together, we give thanks and look forward to seeing Plant life for many generations to come. Now our minds are one."

"When we look about us, we see that the berries are still here, providing us with delicious foods. The leader of the berries is the strawberry, the first to ripen in the spring. Can we agree that we are grateful that the berries are with us in the world and send our thanksgiving, love, and respect to the berries? Now our minds are one.”

“With one mind, we honor and thank all the Food Plants we harvest from the garden, especially the Three Sisters who feed the people with such abundance. Since the beginning of time, the grains, vegetables, beans, and fruit have helped the people survive. Many other living things draw strength from them as well. We gather together in our minds all the plant foods and send them a greeting and thanks. Now our minds are one.”

"Now we turn to the Medicine Herbs of the world. From the beginning they were instructed to take away sickness. They are always waiting and ready to heal us. We are so happy that there are still among us those special few who remember how to use the plants for healing. With one mind, we send thanksgiving, love, and respect to the Medicines and the keepers of the Medicines. Now our minds are one."

"Standing around us we see all the Trees. The Earth has many families of Trees who  each have their own instructions and uses. Some provide shelter and shade, others fruit and beauty and many useful gifts. The maple is the leader of the trees, to recognize its gift of sugar when the people need it most. Many peoples of the world recognize a Tree as a symbol of peace and strength. With one mind we greet and thank the Tree life. Now our minds are one. "

"We gather our minds together to send our greetings and thanks to all the beautiful animal life of the world, who walk about with us. They have many things to teach us as people. We are grateful that they continue to share their lives with us and hope that it will always be so. Let us put our minds together as one and send our thanks to the Animals. Now our minds are one. "

"We put our minds together as one and thank all the birds who move and fly about over our heads. The creator gave them the gift of beautiful songs. Each morning they greet the day and with their songs remind us to enjoy and appreciate life. The Eagle was chosen to be their leader and to watch over the world. To all the Birds, from the smallest to the largest, we send our joyful greetings and thanks. Now our minds are one."

"We are all thankful for the powers we know as the Four Winds. We hear their voices in the moving air as they refresh us and purify the air we breathe. They help to bring the change of seasons. From the four directions they come, bringing us messages and giving us strength. With one mind we send our greetings and thanks to the Four Winds. Now our minds are one."

"Now we turn to the west where our grandfather the Thunder Beings live. With lightning and thundering voices they bring with them the water that renews life. We bring our minds together as one to send greetings and thanks to our Grandfathers, the Thunderers. "

"We now send greetings and Thanks to our eldest brother the Sun. Each day without fail he travels the sky from east to west, bringing the light of a new day. He is the source of all the fires of life. With one mind, we send greetings and thanks to our Brother, the Sun. Now our minds are one. "

"We put our minds together and give thanks to our oldest Grandmother, the Moon, who lights the night time sky. She is the leader of women all over the world and she governs the movement of the ocean tides. By her changing face we measure time and it is the Moon who watches over the arrival of children here on Earth. Let us gather our thanks for Grandmother Moon together in a pile, layer upon layer of gratitude, and then joyfully fling that pile of thanks high into the night sky that she will know. With one mind, we send greetings and thanks to our Grandmother, the Moon.

"We give thanks to the Stars who are spread across the sky like jewellery. We see them at night, helping the Moon to light the darkness and bringing dew to the gardens and growing things. When we travel at night, they guide us home. With our minds gathered as one, we send greetings and thanks to all the stars. Now our minds are one. "

"We gather our minds to greet and thank the enlightened Teachers who have come to help throughout the ages. When we forget how to live in harmony, they remind us of the way we were instructed to live as people. With one mind, we send greetings and thanks to these caring Teachers. Now our minds are one."

"We now turn our thoughts to the Creator, or Great Spirit, and send greetings and Thanks for all the gifts of Creation. Everything we need to live a good life is here on Mother Earth. For all the love that is still around us, we gather our minds together as one and send our choicest words of greetings and thanks to the Creator. Now our minds are one. "

They end the prayer with this invocation,

“We have now arrived at the place where we end our words. Of all the things we have named, it is not our intention to leave anything out. If something was forgotten, we leave it to each individual to send such greetings and thanks in their own way. And now our minds are one.”

Braiding Sweetgrass - Robin Kimmerer

Braiding Sweetgrass: Indigenous Wisdom, Scientific Knowledge and the Teachings of Plants; a beautiful book by Robin Kimmerer. What a sweet voice she has, you feel like just listening to her. Can't Thank Bindu Manoj enough, for her lovely quotes in Facebook, that tempted me to pick this book .

The book lends its title from the sweetgrass that is such a mainstay of indigenous tradition and braiding is what we called plating as children, which was compulsory in schools. Sweetgrass is understood as the hair of Mother Earth—that sweet, shining long hair. And just as we braid the hair of someone that we love to enhance their beauty, to care for them, as a real tangible sign of our loving and caring relationship with one another,  people braided sweetgrass. It is a metaphor and a pragmatic representation of our care for Mother Earth.

A long book, with almost 400 pages of small print, divided into 32 chapters, in 5 Parts on Planting, Tending, Pcking, Braiding, Burning, Sweetgrass, that go deep into heart for the lovers of nature and Mother Earth, demonstrating the importance of combining academic knowledge with traditional understandings and personal investment.  Earth asks us by modelling generosity. Gratitude and Reciprocity.

Skywoman grabbed a branch from the falling tree - in the emptiness there were many. From the beginning of time - care and responsibility were on the strong wings of the Geese, who let her rest on their back, but not too long she could carry on like that, she wanted land. The depth, the darkness and the pressure was too much. Earth was made from Gratitude and Reciprocity. And that is what earth ask from us today.  It is humbling. Skywoman exists first as a legend, then as a set of moral regulation, then as a personal emotion. The motif of skywoman changes and evolves.

Indigenous people name the gardening style the Three sisters, retelling their stories as though the plants are three female siblings who help people through. Grown together, the three plants are "a blue-print of the world, a map of balance and harmony." 'The three sisters' - squash, corn and beans.

The modern materialist society is one of overconsumption, in which people are so focused on materialism that they constantly take more than they need; traditional societies, on the other hand, were built on more spiritual beliefs and thus are able to ensure that the issue of overconsumption does not become overbearing.

"Children, language, lands: almost everything was stripped away, stolen when you weren't looking because you were trying to stay alive."

"Ceremonies large and small have the power to focus attention to a way of living awake in the world".

Rather than spiritual or religious in nature, these actions have important meanings. The acts of leaving behind kindling and cleaning the campsite, for example, demonstrate a commitment to the preservation of the natural world which extends beyond pure belief and into actionable community benefits. These ceremonies have real world, positive ramifications, not just for those conducting the ceremonies but for those who come before and after.

"Plants were reduced to objects; they were not subjects".

"Perhaps we cannot know the river. But what about the drops?"

"The corn is the firstborn and grows straight and stiff; it is a stem with a lofty goal."

"There is a rupture in the chain of relationship that stretches back through time immemorial."  - A natural threat to a natural cycle, though one which is born out of unnatural circumstances.

"When they abandoned gratitude, the gifts abandoned them."

The concept of motherhood is addressed repeatedly throughout the text, in both the real and the abstract sense.

Throughout the book, the author has used sweetgrass as a metaphor for a certain conception of the world. "As nonnative species come in, they may also crowd out the sweetgrass - plants repeating the history of their people."  In this quote, Robin Kimmerer adds a historical dimension to the metaphor: the disappearance of sweetgrass, crowded out by invasive species, is likened to the indigenous populations, driven to near extinction by the settlers. This codifies a bleaker, more violent subtext to the title and the metaphor itself, reminding the audience of the blight of the indigenous people.

"Fire building was a vital connection to those who came before." - Fire of prophecy - connection between past, present and future. Knowledge passed on.

"Restoring land without restoring relationship is an empty exercise." - Without

-----------

It was the below quotes from Bindu Manoj's Facebook post that tempted me to grab that book, and cannot Thank her enough for it.

“On one side of the world were people whose relationship with the living world was shaped by Skywoman, who created a garden for the well-being of all. On the other side was another woman with a garden and a tree. But for tasting its fruit, she was banished from the garden and the gates clanged shut behind her. That mother of men was made to wander in the wilderness and earn her bread by the sweat of her brow, not by filling her mouth with the sweet juicy fruits that bend the branches low. In order to eat, she was instructed to subdue the wilderness into which she was cast.

Same species, same earth, different stories”

“If a fountain could jet bouquets of chrome yellow in dazzling arches of chrysanthemum fireworks, that would be Canada Goldenrod. Each three-foot stem is a geyser of tiny gold daisies, ladylike in miniature, exuberant en masse. Where the soil is damp enough, they stand side by side with their perfect counterpart, New England Asters. Not the pale domesticates of the perennial border, the weak sauce of lavender or sky blue, but full-on royal purple that would make a violet shrink. The daisylike fringe of purple petals surrounds a disc as bright as the sun at high noon, a golden-orange pool, just a tantalising shade darker than the surrounding goldenrod. Alone, each is a botanical superlative. Together, the visual effect is stunning. Purple and gold, the heraldic colours of the king and queen of the meadow, a regal procession in complementary colours.

I just wanted to know why.”

“It is the fundamental unfairness of parenthood that if we do our jobs well, the deepest bond we are given will walk out the door with a wave over the shoulder. We get good training along the way. We learn to say “Have a great time, sweetie” while we are longing to pull them back to safety. And against all the evolutionary imperatives of protecting our gene pool, we give them car keys. And freedom. It’s our job.”

“We are showered every day with gifts, but they are not meant for us to keep. Their life is in their movement, the inhale and the exhale of our shared breath. Our work and our joy is to pass along the gift and to trust that what we put out into the universe will always come back”

'The more I read and learn about indigenous ways of life across the world, the more I realize the sham that is organized religion and their pontification that theirs is the only true God. The people of the earth, water and sky, wherever they are, knew the grace and blessing that nature is. They lived in harmony with their true giver, Mother Nature before ‘civilization’ ousted them from their home.

“It reminds them that much is expected of them eventually. It says this is what it means to be a good leader, to have vision, and to be generous, to sacrifice on behalf of the people. Like the maple, leaders are the first to offer their gifts.” It reminds the whole community that leadership is rooted not in power and authority, but in service and wisdom.”

Introduce yourself. Be accountable as the one who comes asking for life. Ask permission before taking. Abide by the answer.

Never take the first. Never take the last. Take only what you need.

Take only that which is given.

Never take more than half. Leave some for others. Harvest in a way that minimizes harm.

Use it respectfully. Never waste what you have taken. Share.

Give thanks for what you have been given.

Give a gift, in reciprocity for what you have taken.

Sustain the ones who sustain you and the earth will last forever.”

The book ends with a series of suggestions, ways in which society can change the way it thinks in order to save the environment.

The Windigo is standing outside her door, haunting her. The creature symbolizes her fears for the planter and the materialist culture which threatens to doom everything.

"Whatever our gift, we are called to give it and to dance for the renewal of the world"

It was a reminiscence of  many things that grandmother used to say, a walk down the memory lane:

1. Importance of Dasapushpam :

  1. Cheroola - (Aerva lanata) Mountain knotgrass
  2. Mukkutty - (Biophytum sensitivum Linn) Little tree plant. - Similarly to Mimosa pudica, the leaflets of Biophytum sensitivum are able to move rapidly in response to mechanical stimulation such as touch. But it is not touch me not.
  3. Valli Uzhinja - (Cardiospermum halicacabum) Balloon plant
  4. Nilappana - (Curculigo orchioides) Golden Eye-grass
  5. Karuka - (Cyndon dactylon)Bermuda grass - Before mechanised farm machinery, it was the farmer’s worst weed. However, back then it saved thousands of acres of farm soil from erosion.
  6. Kayyunni - (Eclipta alba) False Daisy
  7. Muyalcheviyan - (Emilia sonchifolia) Lilac tassel flower
  8. Vishnukranthi - or Krishnakranthi (Evolvulus alsinoidus) Dwarf Morning glory
  9. Thiruthali - (Ipomea maxima) Morning glory
  10. Poovankurunthal - (Vernonia cinerea) Little Ironweed or Purple Fleabane
2. Braiding reminded me how as children, we - sisters, cousins, aunts, mother - grandmother, used to sit in rows plating , each others hair.  Is it because that kind of love is not seen these days, that people tend to leave their hair open? That was a sign of relationship and bonding.

3. How we used to braid coconut leaves, and make variety of things out of it.

4. Skywomen falling, wanting earth, reminded me of the 5 elements of nature - and how our vedas say, sky turned into air, which became water and with fire earth was formed.

5. The story of 'The three sisters' - squash, corn and beans - reminded me of the times of paddy harvesting, and how during harvest in place of corn, it was paddy, and at times of other activities like reaping, stacking, handling, threshing, cleaning, and hauling -in between the interval for each succeeding sowing , beans and squash where grown in the paddy fields.

6. Sweetgrass being swept away - metaphor for erasing traces of indigenous people , is a live example we see across the world, both in nature and society.

7. Restoring land, without restoring relationship - again, the most common problem in the world today.

Frozen Vs. Fresh Vs. Packaged Food

Food:

  • Fruits, Vegitables,
  • Nuts
  • Processed food

"Processed food" includes food that has been cooked, canned, frozen, packaged or changed in nutritional composition with fortifying, preserving or preparing in different ways. Any time we cook, bake or prepare food, we're processing food.

Fresh Food:

Freshly picked fruits and vegetables straight from the farm or your own garden are of the highest quality, eaten unprocessed.

Fresh varieties are not always fresh, it depends on from where you are buying. In a consumer state where things are not produced, mostly what we get are semi ripe food, which do not develop all nutrients. Plus in the course of transportation, chemicals are added and it losses more nutrients.

Frozen Food:

However, if you are shopping at the supermarket, frozen produce may be equal to, or in some cases, even more nutritious than fresh varieties.

Frozen food too do lose some nutrients in the process of blanching , which is placing it in warm water before freezing to kill harmful bacteria's.

In frozen food, what one need to be careful is there are two ways in which it is done, be careful, that:

  •  Food is actually frozen, and there is no ice or water added to it.
  •  If it is water added - the quality of water might not always be good, and the weight increases so the quantity would be less.

At the end of the day, frozen fruit and vegetables are a convenient and cost-effective alternative to fresh options.

Packed/Canned Processed Food:

Buying processed foods can lead to people eating more than the recommended amounts of sugar, salt and fat as they may not be aware of how much has been added to the food they are buying and eating. These foods can also be higher in calories due to the high amounts of added sugar or fat in them.

Many of the 100-calorie pack items are free of trans fats and low in sugar, but don't confuse them with a nutritious snack, experts say. That's because they're highly processed, and not nearly as good for you as fresh fruits and vegetables.

Most pre-packaged foods have a list of ingredients, which includes preservatives. Food additives are normally listed near the end of the ingredient list, as they are usually found in smaller quantities.

Choose products with fewer and known ingredients. Look for whole foods, not variations of whole foods.

Processed packaged foods aren’t going away anytime soon and some of them can actually deliver nutrients when cooking is not an option. Use this information to help decipher the healthy and not-so-much and it can be possible to save time and cooking hassle, without sacrificing health.

Choose wisely, based of your body type. Stay healthy. Happiness Humesh!

Psychology and strategy to build business - interviewed 300 people across India, compiled result in 'Lead or Bleed.'

7 Foundational activities to build stable and successful business
    1. Marketing - Lead Generation: If you business is dependent on word of mouth referral, it is only a bonus and not a marketing strategy. You can't control how many you will get from word of mouth. Grab attention, create curiosity.
    2. Sales - Revenue Generation: Understand requirement of customer, pitch,  negotiate and close the lead.
      1. Note: If both are the same person, there will be cold calling, emails and waking the result is low and slow. So keep marketing and sales separate. The confidence of business man will come down, and think there is not of competition and it is not revenue generating.
        1. 80% effort should be on marketing for value addition -
        2. 20% effort should be on sales for product or service promotion -
        3. Only sales fails,
        4. Example: Assume friend created a whatsapp group of 250 people,
          1. one member start sending pictures of products that they want to sell, after spaming the group, he introduces himself, - Exit, leave, ignore, block is what we may do. Why? Because this person is trying to sell, without establishing relationship, creditability. - Only sales fails.
          2. One member send message to the group - passion, educate, add value. Health, wellness and Nutrition - 8 weeks establish credibility,
        5. response to negative cynical people should be ignore them. Don't lose your campaign, creativity, and knowledge because of them. Doesn't matter where your customer is, go out there and establish your credibility.
        6. This is powerful, effective and ethical way of doing business.
    3. Operations - Value and Happiness: Providing goods and services. Goal of all these operational department is to provide value to the customer and make them happy. Different business have different department across operations. Include Admin., Hygine, customer service - ask what are the activity you do in you business to create and deliver your service/product.
    4. R&D - New Product , New Service : This is needed because when you launch ne, you attract new customers, you give yourself an opportunity to create more money from existing customers.
    5. Accounts - Accuracy, Compliance, Reporting : Capture financial data in an accurate manner; follow rules and regulations that we need to follow - registration, licenses, taxes, PF; proper data as decisions without data is a disaster. Cash flow report, profitability report - most important and ignored.
    6. HR - Recruitment, People Development, Happiness:  Hire the right person for the right job at the right time. Quality of recruitment can make or break your business. There should be a training and mentoring system for self and team. Only when skill and development of people grow, capability grow, and only then performance. Think about what makes employee happy - respectful culture at work place, career growth, financial growth, work life balance. Now work is not life, but only part of life. When you are able to take care of this four things, you are taking care of employee happiness.
      1. If all six are not consistent, your income, wealth and growth will not be consistent. These should not be dependent on the business owner. Sitting and doing all by yourself, is the biggest injustice.
      2. Understand the problem, don't feel like superhero, trying to do everything.
      3. All have to happen consistently, but one person cannot do all.
    7. Management: This is the job of business owner, not doing any of the above 6. If we are involved in day to day activity, it is crises management. Actual role and true meaning of management is taking up the three responsibility:
      1. Provide clarity - Of
        1. Wholistic goals - Only setting a financial target is an incomplete goal - it's a wish. Goals should be provided for :
          1. Financial for business
          2. Functional for department
          3. Individual for every team member - or people will be taking salary home for free
        2. Profitable business model - Technology disrupting business, competition, more options in the business. - Vaible/Scalable.
        3. Systems - Steps to be followed by every single department, to achieve the result of that department.
          1. If there is a gap in our skills and knowledge in creating this. Make these three areas your learning goal.
      2. Accelerate Performance -
        1. Hiring the right people, - attitude, skill and knowledge - or you will have headache. You will have to do the work.
        2. Delegate clear roles -  I believe in you, you have the spark in your eye - you cant say this to wrong people. If you expect a fish to fly, the fish will die.
        3. Review performance and give feedback - Removing your frustration on people is not feedback, the purpose is to enhance performance. Now children don't listen to parents abuses. Feedback has to be given with respect and clarity. Don't say you reflect.
        4. Train and develop people - On job related skills and knowledge. Motivation is a temporary solution.
        5. Do salary appraisal scientifically - Not based on the relationship, blackmail or threatening. Everybody knows about your decision. The honest, loyal, committed person feels betrayed. Truth is team is a reflection of your capabilities. Stop blaming your team, start reflecting on your skills, develop it and do the right deal.
        6. Firing the wrong people - Have zero tolerance policy with those lacking integrity. Your plain is hijacked if you have people without integrity. If you keep them, you are a week leader. Lying, stealing, Cheating - zero tolerance. If performance is not upto the mark - provide skill and development training, support them.
          1. Critical people management skill. Till your team size is 30 people you don't need an HR.
          2. If there is a gap in our skills and knowledge in creating this. Make these three areas your learning goal.
      3. Strategic Growth - Explore new:
        1.  Markets -
        2.  Partnerships -
        3. Opportunities -
  1. 4 Truths
    1. Business stability depend on consistency of 7 function
    2. Building business is a team sport
    3.  Hiring is an investment, not hiring is an expense. When you don't have the money, hire one person at a time, one department at a time. If you cant afford even one person's salary, means you have not started marketing and sales. First you have to do it. Which department should I hire first? - Eliminate - Management, R&D, Accounts not until you have at least 5 hours of work for the accountant, HR not till your team size is 30. Hire for Marketing, sales and Operations. How do you decide? Based on your skill, capability and interest and can multitask with Management. Decide if your skill, interest and capability is in Marketing, sales or Operations.
    4. People will leave and that's okay. Don't go into a hiring coma. You cant build a big business with small appetite. Your problem is not in people leaving, but in the work being effected. Train your team members on how to leave.  Inform in advance, help get replacement, train, leave with respect, responsibility and integrity. 8/10 will follow, but there would be 2 who will not. Not teaching  your children how to leave is not teaching your children about sex. If you don't teach them, they will be browsing or going out to find about it.
If a business persons mindset is doing all by self, and not trusting others, you have zero percent chance to be successful.

In most businesses, most business man is doing too many things - It is called Trap of Self Employment.
Don't do the job of what your team member is supposed to do and not be paid for it.

Approach of the business owner matters. If not 'Self-Employment is a Trap! '. Don't be unfair to protect your Ego, and understand others care, but can help only to a limited extend.

Never say money is not everything in life, unless you have money. Don't act like a spiritually evolved person, you are incapable. Spirituality is when you have an abundance of everything.

Your role as a business owner - Don't leave a life of chaos and confusion

If you are deciding to build a business, don't be in a self-employment trap.

If employment is a rat race, self-employment is termite fighting.

Different reason on why business owner get into the trap of self-employment:

  1. Business Model Gap : Factors under this are
    1. Low Margins -
    2. Slow Payments -
    3. Inconsistent Sales -
  2. Unclear Systems:
    1. marketing, sales, ops depends on owner's effort & intelligence - Owner is the system, is self-employment
    2. No clear systems to get predictable results - Trial and error game
  3. Ineffective Teams:
    1. Lack skills to produce results - Honest, loyal, hardworking
    2. Lack of commitment -
Analyse your business, and see what is pulling you back from getting into a business and be in a self-employment.

No matter what is the factor, your next step is to learn what you are missing. Modify the business model, to enhance the factor, build systems, learn people management skills.

3 Key changes to Build a Business to Grow without You:

  1. Enhance clarity - before you give to business; about
    1. Personal financial goals - Not the amount needed to take care of monthly expenses.
      1. Business Pace Programme - 5 uses of money:
        1. Spending money on the necessities of your lifestyle
        2. Saving money for the future - Or money will not save you in the future.
        3. Sending the money to work - Investing money for growth
        4. Spending money on your enjoyment and recreation
        5. Spending it in charity and contribution.
          1. Only then you will have balanced relationship with money. have clarity of how much you want in each area.
    2. Business Financial Goals -
    3. Functional goals for all 7 functions
  2. Capability enhancement - Clarity gives you direction, now you need to move in that direction and take action. For that you need capability. Learn
    1. Creating a profitable Business Model - Build Strategy
    2. Designing Functional Systems - Build System
    3. Hiring, delegating, training, reviewing, appraising, firing skills - Build Teams.
      1. Strategy
      2. System
      3. Teams
        1. Building this is a 3 to 5 year game, there is no quick fix if you have skills
  3. Courage enhancement -
    1. To give - Open and fair. You need a big heart for that. If you don't have that you are not smart, but cheap. Give with joy. When you give is when you deserve to receive.
    2. To Make decisions - Perfectionism is not strength it is a weakness, it kills action and progress. You become a control freak. You don't not because you are lazy, but you are scared. Success is a shabby journey. If you cannot handle the shabbiness you cannot handle success.
    3. To Invest - Time and money - You do not have today, to get the time and money you desire to have tomorrow.
70% depend on courage; 10% on Clarity and 20% on Capability.

Product great, service great and customer happy, but business not growing - because you have product and service skills but you do not have business skills.

You may be  good at whatever you do, but that would not mean you are good business owner at that, it means you are good at creating that product or service. Start building your business skills.

Business is a journey, take it in this direction. There is nothing called easy success, there is no get ich quick schemes.

Team - System - Strategy - Build it, for that enhance Clarity, Capability, Courage.

Most important, we have understood, that we need to manage focusing on growth, giving clarity, building team system, strategy.

Do we have gaps in our skills? Are we able to implement the solutions fully?

A Promised Land - Barack Obama

A book divided into seven parts and 27 chapters running into nearly 700 pages and the next 200 pages dedicated to photograph and acknowledgements, with each part having 3 to 5 chapters,  is a book send to me by Payal, and was sitting with me for more than a year. Thanks to the book Club started by her, was compelled to make this a priority. Let's call this 28th of 2022, though it could be 30th as well.

Published in 2020, this is the first of a planned two-volume series, remaining focused on his political career,  documenting Obama's life from his early years through to the events surrounding the killing of Osama bin Laden in May 2011 which is just 2 years into his presidency which lasted from 2009 to 2017.

Part 1 : The Bet

The book begin with the famous walk down the Colonnade, through all seasons. Gardner,  Malia, Sasha, Bo, Michelle, Maya,  grandparents, parents and Barry, sometimes shortened as Bar pronounced as 'Bear' (Guess who is that?) all follow in quick succession.

It was as if, because of the very strangeness of my heritage and the worlds I straddled, I was from everywhere and nowhere at once, a combination of ill-fitting parts, like a platypus or some imaginary beast, confined to a fragile habitat, unsure of where I belonged. And I sensed, without fully understanding why or how, that unless I could stitch my life together and situate myself along some firm axis, I might end up in some basic way living my life alone. Oh, how earnest I was then—how fierce and humorless! When I look back on my journal entries from this time, I feel a great affection for the young man that I was, aching to make a mark on the world, wanting to be a part of something grand and idealistic, which evidence seemed to indicate did not exist. This was America in the early 1980s, after all.

If I were to travel back in time, I might urge the young man I was to set the books aside for a minute, open the windows, and let in some fresh air (my smoking habit was then in full bloom). That uncertainty, that self-doubt, kept me from settling too quickly on easy answers. I got into the habit of questioning my own assumptions, and this, I think, ultimately came in handy, not only because it prevented me from becoming insufferable, but because it inoculated me against the revolutionary formulas embraced by a lot of people on the left at the dawn of the Reagan era. I heard in church basements and on bungalow porches the very same values—honesty, and hard work, and empathy—that had been drilled into me by my mother and grandparents, I came to trust the common thread that existed between people.

On every issue, it seemed, we kept bumping up against somebody—a politician, a bureaucrat, some distant CEO—who had the power to make things better but didn’t. And when we did get concessions from them, it was most often too little, too late. The power to shape budgets and guide policy was what we needed, and that power lay elsewhere.

Far from the center of the action, I watched this drama unfold and tried to absorb its lessons. I saw how the tremendous energy of the movement couldn’t be sustained without structure, organization, and skills in governance. I saw how a political campaign based on racial redress, no matter how reasonable, generated fear and backlash and ultimately placed limits on progress. And in the rapid collapse of Harold’s coalition after his death, I saw the danger of relying on a single charismatic leader to bring about change.

Harold gave people hope. The way Black Chicagoans talked about him in those years was reminiscent of how a certain generation of white progressives talked about Bobby Kennedy—it wasn’t so much what he did as how he made you feel. Like anything was possible. Like the world was yours to remake. For me, this planted a seed. It made me think for the first time that I wanted to someday run for public office.

Enthusiasm makes up for a host of deficiencies, I tell my daughters. The doubts arose from having to prove, no matter how well you did, that you belonged in the room—prove it not just to those who doubted you but to yourself.

“Have you ever noticed that if there’s a hard way and an easy way, you choose the hard way every time? Why do you think that is?”

First announcement, of entry into politics was on September 19, 1995,  at the Ramada Inn in Hyde Park, with pretzels and chips and a couple hundred supporters. I was trying to deliver a lot of things to a lot of different people. I was taking the hard way, I thought now about the promise I’d made to myself after Malia was born; that my kids would know me, that they’d grow up knowing my love for them, feeling that I had always put them first.

I tell my audience, to the unpredictable nature of politics, and the necessity for resilience. What I don’t mention is my dark mood on that flight back. I was almost forty, broke, coming off a humiliating defeat and with my marriage strained. I felt for perhaps the first time in my life that I had taken a wrong turn; that whatever reservoirs of energy and optimism I thought I had, whatever potential I’d always banked on, had been used up on a fool’s errand. Worse, I recognized that in running for Congress I’d been driven not by some selfless dream of changing the world, but rather by the need to justify the choices I had already made, or to satisfy my ego, or to quell my envy of those who had achieved what I had not.

In other words, I had become the very thing that, as a younger man, I had warned myself against. I had become a politician—and not a very good one at that.

10 June 2001, Sasha was born. I experienced a great clarity—not so much that I would win, but that I could win, and that if I did win, I could have a big impact in the US Senate Race. First TV campaign started ending with the tagline “Yes we can.” There was no looking back, Michelle unbelievably asked, was it real, and he said - 'Magic Bean Baby, magic bean.'

I had made a bet a long time ago, and this was the point of reckoning. I was about to step over some invisible line, one that would inexorably change my life, in ways I couldn’t yet imagine and in ways I might not like. But to stop now, to turn back now, to lose my nerve now—that was unacceptable. I had to see how this whole thing played out.

Part 2: Yes We Can

Need for fundamental change; the need to tackle long-term problems like healthcare and climate change; the need to move past the tired Washington partisan divide; the need for an engaged and active citizenry. They were into campaigning 2 years, and now 11 months for filing, flying between NW , Chicago, L.A., Dallas, fundraising, learning, missing family, head crammed with too many facts.

In presidential politics, the best strategy means little if you don’t have the resources to execute it, and this was the second thing we had going for us: money; there was fights and differences of opinions - with Hillary Clinton and others, question about drugs.  Initially he was David in the fight, after the victory in Iowa he became Goliath.

“THERE IS NOT a Black America and a white America and a Latino America and an Asian America. There’s the United States of America.” It was probably the line most remembered from  2004 convention speech. Entering the campaign's first order of business was unifying the Democratic party.  Convincing Joe to be the VP , had it's own challenges and agreements.  He understood that if had to be a president he had to acted like one. His assortment of charms grew steadily, with well wishers gifting it.

Part 3: Renegade - As US Senator had visited White house, but it was only after winning, he could enter the oval office. The room is awash in light. Then began appointment of the team. Expectations for inauguration—scheduled for January 20, 2009—were high. It was less a transformation than an amplification, her essential “Miche-ness” burnished to a high shine. But for all her growing comfort with being in the public eye, behind the scenes Michelle was desperate to carve out some zone of normalcy for our family, a place beyond the distorting reach of politics and fame. Inauguration day, first time in 'The Beast', First week in the White House, everything is new.

Part4: The Good Fight

Part 5: The World as it is

Part 6: In the Barrel

Part 7: On the High Wire

Rahul Gandhi has “a nervous, unformed quality about him, as if he were a student who’d done the coursework and was eager to impress the teacher but deep down lacked either the aptitude or the passion to master the subject.” Secretary of Defense Bob Gates and the Indian prime minister Manmohan Singh both come across as having a kind of impassive integrity.
