"RAM C/O ANANDHI" is a story that left me in awe, making me wish that some of the events described never take place in the real world, but ALAS! that’s far from reality.
Every character plays an important role, but some, like Malli, particularly stood out and left me with a sense of unease. The narrative follows Ram, a young man from Kerala who moves to Chennai with aspirations of becoming a filmmaker. As he enrolls in a film institute, he encounters a diverse group of individuals, including Anandhi, a strong-willed receptionist; Vetri; Reshma; Patti and Malli, a transgender woman. The story delves into their intertwined lives, highlighting their personal struggles and the societal challenges they face.
Even though I read the translated version, I could still feel all the emotions just as they were intended. The plot twists and turns evoke the same feeling as watching a movie, making the story captivating. This tale definitely deserves to be adapted into a film. The author has done a remarkable job, blending incidents and characters inspired by real-life experiences to bring the story to life exploring their tumultuous relationship against the backdrop of college life and societal challenge like migration, human trafficking, police atrocities, transgender treatment, broken family, marriage, death and love for Padmini. Book cover, places in Kerala like Munambam, Sri Lanka, LTTE and Chennai.
Also waiting to read ANANDHI C/O RAM. A sequel on what happened to Anandhi.
