Happy Mind, Happy Life

Literally a heavy book, with lot of pictures, slightly bigger font then most books, colourful, but content is not difficult to grasp for those who have been reading lot of self help books, but it has it's own unique features, thoughts and charm.

Nevertheless some comments on the book read:

What you take will change 100% of your life for ever. You do not and will not take the whole of it.

The advice whilst absolutely sound is nothing remotely revelatory and has been said many times over.  The book has been helpful in so much that I now know for certain, that happiness isn’t found in a book.

Isn't this true about most of the books these days?

Core Happiness Vs Junk Happiness is something new and interesting I learned in this book and the stool. Could very much relate to it.

According to the author, by strengthening your internal Core Happiness like a muscle in your body, you will reduce negative emotions, become more resilient to everyday stress and experience more joy. They key pillars that support our Core Happiness are:

CONTENTMENT - Being at peace with your life and your decisions.

CONTROL - Feeling that nothing, within reasons, has the power to overwhelm you.

ALLIGNMENT - Knowing that the person you want to be and who you are, are one and the same.

The quick, easy and science-led techniques in this book will help you nurture these essential pillars and feel more in control of your mental wellbeing than even before.

Happiness is Good for your health, learn how to nurture yours. Happiness = Health.

The book covers 10 simple ways to feel great everyday. The first 9 are me-focused. Each one of us, as adults is ultimately responsible for our own alignment, contentment and sense of being in control. No one can strengthen our core happiness for us. But we are wired to give. "The individualist focus on the self can cause us to suffer." Kindness and compassionate meditation will help. Well all that is in the 10th. All of them in the chronological order are:

  1. Write your Happy Ending
  2. Eliminate Choice
  3. Treat Yourself with Respect
  4. Make Time Stand Still
  5. Seek Out Friction
  6. Talk to Strangers
  7. Treat Your Phone like a Person
  8. Have Mask less Conversations
  9. Go on Holiday Every Day
  10. Give Yourself Away
Each of these have beautiful case studies; exercises, quotes and pictures to strengthen your Happiness Muscle. We need to practise it.

When we reach out to the nearest and quickest solutions - something that make us feel a bit less unhappy, even it it's a short-term fix, it is Junk-happiness. Too much of anything is bad.

The difference between core and Junk happiness is in the intention. One of the ways you can tell core from Junk Happiness is how you fee when you remember it. If the memory makes you shrink inside, it was almost certainly Junk; if it makes you feel bigger when you remember it, it was probably nourishing you and building core happiness.

Get Good at Happy!

4 Friends - Attitude

“No one here is to blame for a problem, Everyone here is responsible for a solution”

Am sure most of us would have heard the story of 4 friends, Everybody, Somebody, Anybody, and Nobody. There was an important job to be done. Everybody was sure that Somebody would do it. Anybody could have done it, but Nobody did it. Somebody got angry about that, because it was Everybody’s job. Everybody thought Anybody could do it, but Nobody realized that Everybody wouldn’t do it. It ended up that Everybody blamed Somebody when Nobody did what Anybody could have done.

The story may be confusing but the message is clear: no one took responsibility so nothing got accomplished. It’s a story that plays out often in many teams and companies. Excuses aren't leadership..

What we need is the right attitude. From ‘How do we make it work’ to working smarter, in a more controlled way with efficiency, a healthy scepticism over improvement, with an eye on value add.

~ Right First Time: Effort upfront reduces downstream inefficiencies.

~Be Inquisitive: Question on results and validity

~Process: Pay attention to the time taken for completion of the task, can it be done faster? Am I being efficient? Is this the right tool for the job? Are the field and data aligned to the job?

Women, goddess and India

We all need woman in our lives,

Through out the day in different ways,

24 hours.

Vidya - Education

Lakshmi- Wealth

Shanthi - Peace

Usha to Sandhya - Annapurna

Nisha - Nindya and Sapna

Gayathri Mantra, Gita, Pooja, Arti, Vandana - we are still with women when we pray

When in dark we want Jyothi

When lonely - Prema, Sneha

In War - Victory - Jaya

Sympathy , Love - Karuna, Mamta

Forgiveness - Shama

Hope you understood my Bhavana.

Basically it is a women's world.

These five goddesses represent the whole universe

No wonder the symbol of a goddess, shakti in Sanskrit—meaning empowerment and existing in the libidinal zone of the body—is the yoni, or vagina.

Here are five goddesses that, put together, represent the whole universe. It doesn’t matter if they’re real, mythological, literary metaphors or imaginary environmental patrons. They’re the original superheroes: semi-naked ladies that don’t give a damn, fight demons and dragons, and protect the planet. And all this by caring, listening to their bodies and following their instinct.

Parvati: Goddess of Fertility

Parvati is the goddess of masculine energy, while her husband, Shiva is the god of feminine energy. Shiva, the blue-ish coloured god who looks like an Indian Medusa, with a pile of snakes coiled on top of his head, is often depicted by a lingam or penis, while Parvati is represented by the yoni.

Together, their union gave birth to the half-man, half-elephant, Ganesh, the god of wisdom. Parvati is depicted fair, bare-breasted and dancing, the final—and emancipated—incarnation of goddesses before her that suffered miserable fates in the face of men.

Parvati is also the daughter of the mountains: elusive as the antelope and changing as the moon. She is that lumber girl that gets down in the bushes, and afterwards, grabs your underwear and runs.

Kali: Goddess of Time

Kali, meaning both black and time, is the fiercest of them all. She is the most misunderstood goddess who kills every demon with her 18 arms, and has a raging temper with her swords and daggers. She can create and destroy with her might, and often needs help harnessing her intensity.

Kali is the coloured woman who is doubly oppressed, but her subtlety lies in the fact that she is not simply a destroyer; she is instead the triumph over death, the woman that has her self-defences down. She is the woman who knows that she’s got to survive in order to win the battle.

At a more spiritual level, she does not symbolise, as many believe, the void, but rather the eternal darkness that surrounds us and into which we meditate. She is the violence that can be softened, the hardness that can be viewed as fear and respected. She is, in a way, the goddess of loss, accumulating power by slaying it.

Saraswati: Goddess of Knowledge

Saraswati means pure water, which comes from her flowing elegance and the ink of the written word. She is the patron saint of science, music and the arts. She played the veena, a Hindustani harp, and appears as the celestial symphony when the universe began.

Today maybe she would play the synth, have an all-girl, post-punk band named, ‘The Lightening Feels’. She is surrounded by books and is said to be the impulse for the creation of one of India’s most important spiritual texts, the Rigveda. She is eloquent, infinitely creative and wise. If you’re studying, reading, writing, singing, free-styling or selling flowers, you should probably look to her for inspiration. And wear yellow, that’s her vibe.

Green Tara: The Female Buddha

At some point in Tara’s long and incessant path towards enlightenment, she was advised to pray to be reborn as a male so she could attain her goal. The very stubborn, tantric deity refused. Instead, she pledged to be born as a woman in every one of her ten thousand or so reincarnations.

Tara is the goddess that transforms the mundane experience of two bodies in pleasure into a heightened experience of total transcendence. In other words, she is ace at converting your taxes into a life’s balance sheet. But here’s her ultimate strength: she doesn’t take her path terribly seriously.

She’s full of play: she does yoga in the morning, masturbates and gets on with her day. In the evening, with whatever gender her partner may be (she often emits rainbows), she elicits a multiple orgasm. Whether she does it with a temporary lover or a long-time love, she is independent without being selfish. She laughs a lot.

Aditi: The Goddess of Limitlessness

Aditi, meaning light, is a cosmic mother. She is the goddess of the 12 astrological signs and is associated with the infinite space—both of the sky and the soul (she flies through the clouds on a rooster).

She is the past, present and future collapsed into one. She is the first element, the origin of everything, the creator of the earth. She is not the source of light of the stars or the sun or the moon, but the eternal luminosity that sustains this light.

Aditi is the pregnant girl at Burning Man wearing blue topaz and sipping tulsi tea. She makes infinity signs with her bicycle and makes the central labyrinth around which the whole town gathers at night. If you’re fighting for free speech, vegetarianism or children’s rights, pray to her.

Drishti

Drishti is a 1990 movie Directed by Govind Nihalani with Dimple Kapadia, Shekhar Kapur, Mita Vashisht, Vijay Kashyap.

Happily married for eight years, Mumbai-based couple Sandhya and Nikhil live an affluent lifestyle in an urban, intellectual milieu along with their daughter Rashmi. Originally coming from middle-class families, the couple has managed to rise in their professional lives through merit and hard work: Sandhya is an editor in a publishing house and Nikhil is a research scientist. On their eighth wedding anniversary, a friend of theirs brings his nephew Rahul, who is a classical singer. Sandhya soon develops an attraction towards Rahul and, despite loving her husband, embroils in an affair with him, which lasts a couple of months. Her friend Prabha is the only one who Sandhya confides in and let's know of the affair. Around this time, Sandhya finds out she is pregnant but they abort the child. About a year later, it is Nikhil who notifies Sandhya of his intention to leave, having fallen in love with a much younger Vrinda, his lab assistant. Sandhya is shattered by his decision, and although she pleads for him not to leave, they eventually separate. Four years after the divorce, Nikhil realizes he has never really loved Vrinda and wants to re-enter Sandhya's life. When he finally meets Sandhya after years of separation, wanting to reunite, in a very candid move, she decides to confess to him her affair with Rahul.

The love for rain, and talk on the beach will stay in your mind long after the movie. Then and now, what women go through is the same.

Oscar: Academy Awards

Great times.  We had three nominations two won. It shows how important winning is, and it needs lot of hard work.  In a historic first, India had three nominations at the Oscars. Shaunak Sen’s All That Breathes was among five films competing in the long documentary format, but lost out to Daniel Roher’s Navalny, a profile of Russian dissident Alexei Navalny.

Come what may there would be people to troll and make fun of you. It's up to each of us to choose our reactions.

It was the power of two this time, two awards, for two each...

TheElephantWhisperers, helmed by Kartiki Gonsalves, follows a couple, Bomman and Bellie, who adopt two orphaned elephants in Tamil Nadu's Mudumalai Tiger Reserve.

To the two women who brought home the Oscars for the ElephantWhisperers, here, take a bow! Congratulations to Kartiki Gonsalves and Guneet Monga on this big proud win for India!

In her acceptance speech, Gonsalves, who was flanked by Guneet Monga, said, “I stand here today to speak for the sacred bond between us and our natural world, for the respect of indigenous communities, and empathy towards other living beings we share space with and finally, for coexistence.” She dedicated her award to “my mother and India”.

While presenting Naatu Naatu’s performance at the ceremony, Deepika said, “An irresistibly catchy chorus, electrifying beats, and killer dance moves to match have made this next song a global sensation. It plays during a pivotal scene in RRR, a movie about the friendship between real-life Indian revolutionaries, Alluri Sitarama Raju and Komaram Bheem. In addition to being sung in Telugu and illustrating the film’s anti-colonialist themes, it’s also a total banger. It’s got millions of views on YouTube and Tiktok, has audiences dancing in movie theatres all around the world, and is also the first song ever from an Indian production to be nominated for an Oscar. Do you know Naatu? Because if you don't, then you are about to." The electrifying performance got a standing ovation from the audience.

And Amul remains the best:

Women's day

After a decade of studying gender inequality, sociologist, Kyl Myers, decided childhood gender socialization needed a creative overhaul. Kyl shares her idea that if we want adulthood gender equality, we have to change the way we treat kids.

Kyl Myers is a sociologist who specializes in gender and sexual & reproductive health. She’s been studying gender inequalities day in and day out for some time the last decade, and has decided to blaze a trail for future generations that will fascinate you. She’s no parenting expert, but she loves helping parents understand gender through a sociological perspective.

Named her child zoomer, and not raising as he or she but they. Now is'nt that too risky and interesting step taken?

This made me wonder where the world is heading too...

No one here is to blame for a problem, everyone here is responsible for a solution.

The surprising neuroscience of gender inequality | Janet Crawford | TEDxSanDiego

It speaks on bias is inherent.

This talk was given at a local TEDx event, produced independently of the TED Conferences. Janet Crawford dives into the unconscious associations that are often made with regard to gender. It’s hard not to reflect on our own unconscious associations as she talks through how our brain creates associations to help us make sense of the world. Her empowering talk speaks to men and women alike, challenging us all to help create the shift from one of blame to one of action through engagement and curiosity.

Janet Crawford is Principal of Cascadance and Founder of the Women and Innovation Lab.  Combining insights from neuroscience, evolutionary biology, and experimental psychology, she helps leaders build productive, innovative and collaborative corporate cultures.  With two decades of experience coaching and consulting for Fortune 500 companies, her client organizations span the who’s who of Silicon Valley and beyond. Janet holds a Masters from Stanford University and a BA from UC Berkeley.

'Re' - Possibility; from it originated the word Stree.

We the Women..

Wear your crown own your queen, do not give the remote control of your life to any other human being. You are an angel, how you say what you say matter. As you respect ‘tonality’ of the world don’t feel guilty in case you need to invoke ‘Kali’ in you when needed. Be in a state of gratitude and become the divine version of the feminine, you will feel good, irrespective of the situation. Learn how to set your own boundaries; you can be a good person with a kind heart and still say ‘No’.

The last of human freedom is to choose one’s attitude in any given set of circumstances – Victory Frankl.

When in crises, deal with the pain, work with your attitude and use it as your wake up and clean up call. Always carry with you your faith, courage, desire and love. Keep moving forward and as you do, take others with you through life. We have come a long way, from being sacred, to being controlled and breaking open again. From similar dresses, to gungat, to dupatas and back again to free choices. Each of us are at different stages in life, there is something that we can always give to to others.

Connect with your own self. Come Alive. Become Awakened. Be present in all that you do. Follow your dreams with all your heart and might with a positive attitude of gratitude and make a difference for having received this wonderful ‘Gift’ of life.

To strong women– may we know them, may we be them, may we raise them!

A MESSAGE TO MEN

When choosing a woman who works, you have to accept that she can't handle the house.

If you have chosen a housewife who can take care of you and fully manage your household, you have to accept that she is not earning money.

If you choose an obedient woman, you must accept that she depends on you and you must ensure her life.

If you decide to be with a strong woman, you have to accept that she is tough and she has her own opinion.

If you choose a beautiful woman, then you will have to accept big expenses.

If you decide to be with a successful woman, you must understand that she has character and has her own goals and ambitions.

There are no such things as perfect. Everyone has their own riddle, which makes us unique!❤💪

-----

I once asked a very successful woman to share her secret with me.

She smiled and said to me..

"I started succeeding when I started leaving small fights for small fighters.

I stopped fighting those who gossiped about me...

I stopped fighting with my in laws...

I stopped fighting for attention...

I stopped fighting to meet public expectation of me...

I stopped fighting for my rights with stupid people..

I left such fights for those who have nothing else to fight...

And I started fighting for

my vision,

my dreams,

my ideas and

my destiny.

The day I gave up on small fights is the day I started becoming successful."

Some fights are not worth your time.

Choose what you fight for wisely.

Friends, one final post on International Women's Day from poet Maya Angelou to inspire us: "Still, I Rise."

You may write me down in history

With your bitter, twisted lies,

You may tread me in the very dirt

But still, like dust, I’ll rise.

Just like moons and like suns,

With the certainty of tides,

Just like hopes springing high,

Still I’ll rise.

You may shoot me with your words,

You may cut me with your eyes,

You may kill me with your hatefulness,

But still, like air, I’ll rise.

Attukal Pongal

March 8th may be Women's day for the rest of the world. But it was sea wave of women in Thiruvananthapuram the capital of Kerala.

Pongala (literally means to boil over) is a ritualistic offering of a sweet dish, consisting of rice porridge, sweet brown molasses, coconut gratings, nuts and raisins. It is done as an offering to the presiding deity of the temple – the Goddess – popularly known as Attukal Amma. Attukal is a Hindu pilgrimage centre located on the banks of Killi river, in the capital city of Thiruvananthapuram. It is situated about two kilometres to the south east from Sree Padmanabhaswamy Temple.

Attukal Pongal takes place in honour of the Goddess at the Attukal Bhagavathy temple in Thiruvananthapuram. The deity worshipped in the temple is Kannagi, an incarnation of Goddess Parvati, Lord Shiva's consort. Sign of Shakthi.

During this 10 day festival, all male folk are categorically restricted from entering the premises of the temple that is very aptly known also as the Sabarimala of Women. Wondering if there will be protest against it?

Brahmapuram "waste treament" Disaster

The plant is dubbed as a waste treament plant, which is in reallity a dump site for waste, with the piles of waste reaching up to 25ft tall. The plant is surrounded by education insitutions, officies, and houses.

This isn't the first incident that has occured.

During 2019 Feb, there was fire at the plant, which had brought toxic fumes to the surrounding area.

The toxic fumes caused by this fire will leave a huge impact on the health standards of the residents of the city, with many suffering with asthama and many falling sick. The current fire has been burning for more that 4 consecutive days, with many of the fire fighters falling sick.

The city needs a permanent solution with regards to its garbage, and the residents have the right to clean air just like they have the right to food, water and shelter.

Right now its no ones responsibility and all political parties who have ruled the city are equally to be blamed.

The Kerala High Court on Tuesday rapped the Pollution Control Board for the failure to carry out its responsibilities.

Initiating suo motu proceedings regarding the fire at Brahmapuram dumping yard, the court asked the Ernakulam district collector, the chairman of the pollution control board and the Kochi Corporation ...

The high court also asked officials to make their stand on solid waste management clear.

The picture itself speaks the unfortunate story... !!

Gulmohar

A two hour movie, on the final four days of the Batra family living in their 31-year-old family home, is all encompassing, covering aspects like family values, relations, class discrimination, hereditary diseases, LBTGS, family disputes, generation gap, festivals, home, religion, love, hope, need for education, gender, regions, watch/Time. Directed and Written by Rahu V. Chittella. Arpita Mukherjee is the co-writer along with the director.

This shift in their lives is a rediscovery of the bonds that have held them together as a family with secrets and insecurities. An OTT release in Disney Hotstar, Sharmila Tagore, Manoj Bajpayee, Simran, Suraj Sharma, Amol  Palekar, and others did full justice to the character and bonus was Talat Aziz with his song.

Gulmohar is akin to that kind of tree that is trimmed more regularly than watered by the gardener. It looks good but doesn’t always feel right. As their Gulmohar villa is being brought down to give way to a high rise, the family meets up for one last party before the packers and movers take over. However, over the course of ghazal and gossip, the discordant notes in their relationships get exposed and one gets sucked into their tumultuous present and turbulent past. The house shift becomes an opportunity to clear the cobwebs in the relationships. as Kusum’s son Arun, Manoj Bajpayee squeezes out the emotional pus that Arun has been carrying for years when the will of his deceased father suddenly pricks his latent anxieties and fears. The way Simran navigates between her imposing mother-in-law and the doting but complex-ridden husband is absolutely relatable. A delima of every home maker, the need to have 10 hands, to cater to various personality was just amazing. Loved the dialogue in the hotel room. Shanty Balachandran as the housemaid Reshma, Jeetu the watchman, her old class mate the supervisor, and their story in the back ground reflected various layers of the society.

Make every day the best day of your life. Give every day the best of your life. Wake up, make morning the best. Set the tone and direction for the day in the morning. Thank God for life. Follow SAVERS and grow.

Why did you wake up this morning? Ask this everyday.

Medicore - for daily things to do. Most just because all wake up. Start everyday working on yourself.

Physical, Mental, emotional and spiritual self - You win in the morning, you win the day.

What did you want to be when you grow up?

My way of looking at the world, is just one way, it need not be the right time. There could be another way.

Lived life with 5 minutes rule.

When there is anything negative happening, bitch/moun/complain/cry - for 5 minutes. Acknowledge and say, Can't change it. No use wishing something different.

I can't change the past, but I can change everything else. Unconditional acceptance.

Only two possibility:
  1. On a wheel chair for the rest of the life - but that would not effect my emotional well being. I will be happiest most grateful person. I have decided. What is your wheelchair? It is in the past. You can have the worst time of your life, and choose to be happy.
  2. Will walk again - Can't predict the future. But I have accepted the worst case, but is visualise me walking every single day. I talk of only what I want.
Then I was free, No fear, no worry.

1. Develop Emotional Invincibility
2. Optimise Your Morning Ritual
3. Create & Sustain Level 10 success
In Every Single Area of Your Life.

Don't live in stress. It will be negative. Choose positive mind set.

When there is anything negative happening, bitch/moun/complain/cry - for 5 minutes. Acknowledge and say, Can't change it. No use wishing something different.

I will be happiest most grateful person. Decide; Accept the worst case and visualise the best case.

Unconditional Acceptance.

Freedom from emotional pain.

Implement: 'Can't change it'.

Stuck in traffic jam - enjoy every moment.

Opposite of acceptance is resistance. It causes all the emotional pain. Don't resist the reality.

Event + Response = Outcome.

Traffic is a metaphor for life.

Accept this moment as it is. Find peace with it. It will give you emotional freedom.

All painful emotions are self created with our resistance to reality. We can choose our emotions at any given moment.

3 Keys to Emotional Invincibility

  1. 5 minutes rule
  2. 'Can-t change it'
  3. Accept life before it happens
Create better circumstances by making our self the best version. Have level 10 out of 10 in every field of our life. Dedicate your day for this.

The origin of Miracle morning. 2nd Rock Bottom. - Financial crises.

There is a fine line between optimism and delusion.

If you want to see something different, you have to do something different first.

Follow SAVERS:

  1. What You're committed to
  2. Why it's deeply meaningful to you
  3. Which actions will ensure your success
  4. When You're Committed to those action
2 Parts to Effective Visualization:
  1. Visualize your ideal outcome
  2. Visualize yourself engaged in your ideal activity w/optimum emotion.
Simple (But Transformative) Scribing

  1. Scribe 1-3 things you're grateful for
  2. Scribe 1-3 top priorities for today.
The greatest gift you can give to those you LOVE (and those you LEAD) is to fulfill YOUR potential. So that you can show them how to fulfill theirs.

Both you and your loved ones deserve it.

Joy & Life

Every tree, every growing thing as it grows, says this truth : You harvest what you sow.

With life as short as a half -taken breath do not plant anything but love.
The value of a human being can be measured by what he or she most deeply loves.

Rumi ❤️
The Big Red Book

If you are seeking, seek us with joy.
For we live in the kingdom of joy.

Do not give your heart to anything else but to the love of those who are clear joy.

Do not stray into the neighborhood of despair.
For there are hopes:
they are real, they exist.

Do not go in the direction of darkness.
I tell you: suns exist.

Rumi ❤️

JOY CHOSE YOU

Joy does not arrive with a fanfare,
on a red carpet strewn with the flowers of a perfect life.

Joy sneaks in, as you pour a cup of coffee,
watching the sun hit your favourite tree, just right.

And you usher joy away,
because you are not ready for it.
Your house is not as it must be,
for such a distinguished guest.

But joy cares nothing for your messy home, you see.

Joy is supposed to slither through the cracks of your imperfect life,
that’s how joy works.

You cannot invite her, you can only be ready when she appears.

And hug her with meaning,

because in this very moment,

joy chose you.

Yes, its a simple yet deep concept. Two critical factors, the avoidance of pain and the quest for pleasure motivate human behavior.- Donald Trump and Mother Theresa are driven by the exact same force. They made conscious choices of what to reward or punish themselves for. 'Not what we have but what we enjoy, constitutes our abundance. Happiness is not a possession but a lack of pain and sorrow.' -Greek philosopher Epicurus in The Art of Happiness.

Life & Happiness..

" All doubt, despair and fear become insignificant when the intention of life becomes love."

🧡 Rumi

Thought for the day (to blow your mind…)

“You are comprised of 84 minerals, 23 Elements, and 8 gallons of water spread across 38 trillion cells.

You have been built up from nothing by the spare parts of the Earth you have consumed, according to a set of instructions hidden in a double helix and small enough to be carried by a sperm. You are recycled butterflies, plants, rocks, streams, firewood, wolf fur, and shark teeth, broken down to their smallest parts and rebuilt into our planet’s most complex living thing.

You are not living on Earth. You are Earth."

You are incredible just as you are!!!!!
