Ancient Churches from Kochi ~ John Alexander

 There are 8 churches in Kerala which tradition says, were built by Apostle St Thomas between 52 ( he landed in Muziris) and 63 AD, before he left for Madras ..taking the land route via Keezhadi, near Madurai. He was killed in 73 AD on St Thomas Mount and buried I'm San Thome church.

After Vasco da Gama landed at Calicut in 1498, the Portuguese etc established themselves at Cochin, Goa (They gave Bombay to England's Charles II, as dowry for Catherine of Braganza) Though they lost control.of Cochin to the Dutch in 1663, they retained Goa, Daman, Diu.
