Produced by Friday Film House, #Home is the story of Oliver Twist (Indrans) and his family that comprises of his wife Kuttiyamma (Manju Pillai), 2 sons - Antony (Sreenath Bhasi) and Charles (Nalsen) and his wheel chair bound father (Kainakari Thankaraj). #Home sticks to the definition of home today. It is the story of the family with three generations living together, Grandfather who loved books so much, ended up naming his children, Oliver Twist, Peter pan and Mary Poppins. Oliver used to run a video rental shop that closed down because Oliver couldn't see the digital wave coming, Kuttiyamma is a nurse retired from government service, Antony is a writer - director whose debut movie was a superhit and is experiencing writer's block with his second script in spite of a producer (Maniyanpilla Raju) and superstar Vishal (Anoop Menon) having committed to his script and Charles, an engineering student, spends all his time creating videos for his YouTube channel that hardly has any subscribers. The boys at home might have affection toward their father, but consider him to be very ordinary and not a role model.
After movies on Dysfunction and death # Home is a welcome change, where the Writer - Director Rojin Thomas has released his new movie - #Home- directly on Amazon Prime. Oliver has been very well portrait as a timid man with a touch of bumbling affection and charm, bruised dignity with good cheer. Seeking help for mental health form a psychologist - Oliver ending up benefiting, when he takes Suryan, a hypochondriac (Johny Antony) his only company, kids always on mobile and the best way to connect to them being mobile, when parents help in washing car - asking for more in spite of their health, parents taking note on how to use mobile are things that could be related very well to real life. Oliver decides to get smarter and buys a smart phone and how it impacts Oliver's life as well as the lives of those around him is what the rest of the movie is all about.
The climax, though effective, seems to be taken straight out of the 2007 superhit - Kadha Parayumbol - the brightly lit frames and the shots of the garden lovingly tended by Oliver reminds us of How Old Are you. Anoop Menon, Maniyanpilla Raju and KPSC Lalitha are impressive in their cameo as is Indrans and Manju Pillai who literally live as Oliver and Kuttiyamma and steals the show.
A movie worth watching and a welcome change.
