Bell Bottom, directed by Ranjit Tewari, is inspired by true events during the reign of Indira Gandhi as Prime Minister of India. The film narrates the story of the 1984 plane hijack in which a group of separatists first landed the plane in Lahore and then took it to Dubai and from RAW (Research and Analysis wing) enacted by Akshay ensure that India don't give away to the demands of the hijackers.
After a plane is hijacked and lands in Amritsar, the seventh hijacking incident in five years, Kumar is brought in to save the day. The film centres around his plans of a daring covert operation to rescue 210 hostages and neutralise four hijackers. The fact that his operation is connected to personal tragedy makes it more impactful. Here again the emotional exchange between a mother and son is beautifully portrayed.
Lara Dutta as late Indira Gandhi in the film has won the hearts of viewers all over. She said in one interview how tough it was in the freezing cold of Scotland. Am wondering why did they have to shoot it in Scotland? It looked the PMO office in India?
