Bad Vegan - Sarma Melngailis - Fame, Fraud, Fugitives

As I was having dinner, heard of Sarma Melngailis and Bad Vegan in Netflix, and she got me hooked, reminding me of Chitra Ramakrishna, not sure why I felt the connection right at the beginning. She is the  Founder of Pure Food and Wine and One Lucky Duck, both vegan raw food restaurants in New York City, is an American Chef and Business woman.

Was in limelight around the same time Chitra Ramakrishna was, like her on the Fortune cover as well, promised of fortunes and all good things, travelling around by a mysterious Yogi, who has finally disappeared. Anthony Strangis, who introduced himself as Shane Fox was her Himalayan Yogi, who promised her to take her to new state of being, to be happily every after.

In ‘Bad Vegan: Fame, Fraud, and Fugitives,’ Netflix presents a four-part docuseries, it involves not only avarice and deceit, but also alleged promises of pet immortality, claims of ethereal entities, and accused gaslighting by Anthony Strangis in order to essentially drain Sarma Melngailis’s life savings and savings account. In light of the fact that it has been alleged that he attempted to do something similar once before, with his then-wife Stacy Strangis in Florida, charmed them with words like “were reincarnated lovers who continued finding our way through time,”.  She felt guys like Anthony was a threat to the society, and it was her duty to support Sarma. No one really knew what Anthony actually did, though an ex friend of his too get featured in the documentary and says, he gambled heavily in Foxwoods resort. He made Will Richard contact her, and collect all details including passwords from her.

In 2017, Melngailis pleaded guilty to theft and fraud charges and spent four months behind bars, but is back with her Pet Leon.
